Allan Venema began hatching goslings in 1965 right beside the mill pond in the village of Hampton, Ontario – which explains our name. In 1982 we relocated to the scenic rolling hills of Northumberland County in Grafton, Ontario, In the fall of 1999 we began construction of a new hatchery and the first hatch out of our new facility was in the spring of 2000. Mill Pond is now run by Wilf Venema and his son Kyle, continuing on the multi-generational family business. Through the support of the Ontario “backyard poultry” industry we still continue to grow, now expanding into hatching chicks, turkey poults, ducklings, pheasant chicks and more.

All of our hatching eggs are sourced here in Ontario from quality hatching egg producers, all of whom are registered, regulated and monitored by the Canadian Food Inspection Agency. We too are registered, regulated and monitored by the Canadian Food Inspection Agency. All of our product is hatched right here in our own hatchery and is available for customer pick up that same day, either here at the hatchery or through various eastern Ontario feed mills whom we do business with. This allows our product the best start possible, resulting in optimal performance.

Our family and staff are committed to paying very close attention to detail, sanitation, poultry husbandry and poultry health practices to ensure that the product coming out of our hatchery is the best it can be for our customers.
